Evonne Tan is the eldest female disciple of Grandmaster Eddie Wu (Gate Keeper of the Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan & Head of the Wu Family). She was accepted as a disciple in 1986 by Grandmaster Eddie Wu, and as per tradition became a 6th generation Wu family member. She is a certified Instructor of the International Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Federation, and teaches at the Toronto Academy.
Her involvement with the Chinese martial arts community includes championship organization, being a competitor, coach and traditional tai chi chuan judge, She was one of the lead organizers for the Traditional Tai Chi section at the 1998 & 2006 Pan American Wushu Championship in Toronto, Canada. She competed in the 1st Canadian Chinese Kuo Shu Federation, winning gold in Traditional Tai Chi, and silver in Tai Chi Weapons. In 2012, at the 2nd International Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Federation competition in Singapore, she was the gold medalist in her favourite weapons – the sword and spear.
In 2006 she achieved the Level 7 Martial Artist Achievement Award from the Confederation of Canadian Wushu Organizations. At the Wu Style Headquarters, Hong Kong 2012, she was awarded the 5th Duan by The Chinese Wushu Association, Beijing.
