Geneviève Liboiron

Geneviève Liboiron is a fellow of the Orford Arts Centre and of the Domaine Forget in Quebec, of the Banff Centre in Alberta and of the Kayaleh Academy in Switzerland. Furthermore, she also brought home the 2012 Opus award for the best concert of the year in the category “Musique actuelle/Musique électroacoustique”, for her interpretation of the mythical work of composer Fausto Romitelli Professor Bad Trip with the ensemble La Machine. Growing her passion and curiosity for contemporary music, she joined the sextet Paramirabo in 2012 with which she toured Canada, England, the United States and Mexico. Also in 2012 and joined by the pianist Daniel Anez, she formed the Wapiti ensemble, a violin/piano/synthesizer duet dedicated to experimental, contemporary and sometimes improvised music. The duet performed in Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Chili, Argentina, Uruguay and Bolivia. Wapiti also holds two artistic residencies from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec in the cities of Bogota and Mexico. In 2016 she created Productions No Hay Banda with percussionist Noam Bierstone and pianist Daniel Anez, an organization dedicated to experimental and DIY music on Monday evenings at the Sala Rossa.

Very active as a freelancer in her field, she worked among others with le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, Quatuor Bozzini, Bradyworks, Productions SuperMusique, the ECM+ and the SMCQ. Her knowledge of the contemporary repertoire and playing techniques has earned her several festival invitations as a guest artist from the Montréal Contemporary Music Lab, the Mise-En festival in New York, the La jornadas de music contemporanea de Bogota festival, the Eduardo Mata festival in Oaxaca, the Open ears festival in Kitchener Waterloo, the new music workshop organized by the Domaine Forget and the Harvard University contemporary music festival in Cambridge. In addition, she taught several masterclasses at multiple university faculties across the Americas and she often sits on several juries during creation and contemporary music contests. Furthermore, she is on the board of directors as secretary and treasurer of Productions No Hay Banda and of the Ensemble Paramirabo.

Geneviève is a violin and music theory teacher at the Conservatoire de la Montérégie and at the Coopérative des professeurs de musique in Montréal. She graduated from University of Montréal with a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in classical violin in the classes of Anne Robert and Laurence Kayaleh.
