Desiree Abbey
cello
Canadian cellist Desiree Abbey performs regularly with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra as Principal Cellist and as an extra musician with the National Arts Centre Orchestra. She has appeared as a soloist with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Guelph Symphony, Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, and National Repertory Orchestra. Her love of chamber music was sparked during her time at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she worked closely with Peter Salaff and the Cavani Quartet in the Intensive Quartet Seminar, nurtured further through her studies with Timothy Eddy, cellist of the Orion String Quartet, and compounded in summers spent at Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival. Fascinated with neuroscience and how the growing brain learns, Desiree is a dedicated teacher, maintaining a private studio and teaching for Orkidstra. When not performing or teaching, she delights in gardening and enjoying the outdoors with her husband Chris Lee and their two children.
