Dylan Pinette
English horn
Dylan Pinette is a two-spirit Red River Métis oboist, English hornist and composer from Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba, Canada. Dylan will be completing their undergrad in Oboe Performance at the University of Ottawa in 2024, studying under Anna Petersen and Chip Hamann.
Since childhood, Dylan has been surrounded by Métis folk music and Indigenous artists. Having won a variety of national competitions on the fiddle up to age 14, Dylan soon decided that the oboe was the correct musical voice for them. Originally starting the oboe by playing fiddle tunes and music with their community church choir, Dylan soon discovered the English horn and the classical music world.
In the summer of 2023, Dylan was invited to play solo English horn in Wagner’s monumental Tristan und Isolde with Orchestre de La Francophonie in Montréal. Dylan currently plays with the University of Ottawa Orchestra, Parkdale Symphony and Ottawa Pops Orchestra.
Outside of music, Dylan spends as much time as possible on hikes in the woods, listening to birds and appreciating the traditional lands of Indigenous peoples.
