City Series: Julian Kytasty and the Ukrainian Bandura
Chamberfest presents an evening with Julian Kytasty, one of the world’s premier players of the bandura, a lute-like instrument of the Ukrainian tradition. As a performer, recording artist, composer, and ensemble leader, Kytasty has released several albums and redefined the possibilities of his instrument. Julian has also composed music for theater, modern dance, and film, including an award-winning film score for the National Film Board of Canada feature documentary, “My Mother’s Village.” In September 2021, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Julian Kytasty the title “Honoured Artist of Ukraine” in a ceremony in New York City. Whether you’re a fan of traditional music, bardic playing, or Ukrainian culture, this will be an intriguing offering.
