Kim Farris-Manning
composer and performer
Kim Farris-Manning is a fun-loving queer artist and arborist living in Ottawa and Montreal. She creates works in many disciplines that engage both performer and audience in unique ways. Allowing ideas to grow and change is a central facet of Kim’s work; pieces are often created in multiple versions, through a process of experimentation and collaboration with others. After studying (B.Mus’18, UVic) and creating as a full-time artist for several years, Kim is currently training to become a certified arborist and forest technician (Collège La Cité ’23). Kim’s artistic and arboricultural practices are deeply intertwined, feeding off each other. Named one of “six emerging Canadian composers to watch” (Ludwig van Toronto, 2022), Kim’s work has been presented worldwide by such organizations as the Maerzmusik Festival (DE), the Ostrava Days Festival (CZ), the Women From Space Festival, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, the Canadian Music Centre and the Canadian Organ Festival. Kim is a member of the folk-indie duo YELLOW and a founding member of the Paramorph collective, which will release its debut album on Redshift Records in 2023.
